We’re building a new play space!
Torbay Playcentre’s new and improved play space will offer children a safe and more engaging environment with better opportunities to imagine, explore and discover. It will give children more of a chance to do what they do best… play!
What’s the problem with our current outdoor playspace?

After many years of almost daily usage – several parts of the outdoor area desperately need renovation and upgrading to ensure children can safely play.
The outdoor soft fall matting is in urgent need of replacement. It has significantly degraded and subsidence has occurred in many areas.
The new design
The design incorporates several structural elements together with a natural theme. It will provide new and varied challenges as the children progress through the area.

Key changes include:
· Removal of the existing soft fall and replaced with new TigerTurf
· New water play area with rocks and boulders to create a natural channel for water to flow down into the sandpit
· New mirror board, chalk board, and copper chimes
· New boardwalk and deck to connect areas with Macrocarpa seating and arbour
Stages of development
This project is going to cost between $50,000 – $100,000 which includes the following four stages.
We are working hard on a variety of fundraising initiatives to bring these plans to life!
Stage 1:
- Installation of TigerTurf
- New mirror board, chalkboard and copper chimes

- Macrocarpa sleeper edging
Stage 2:
- Boardwalk to connect areas
- Modify retained garden for sandpit shed
- Creation of waterplay area with rocks and boulders
- Jetty into sandpit with post and rope barrier
- Concrete area for messy play
Stage 3:
- Pine decking boardwalk to connect areas
- Macrocarpa seat and arbour
Stage 4:
- Redo wobbly section along top boardwalk and modify to step down to high deck which can connect to modular equipment
